Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a diagnostic procedure slightly invasive used for healing, it consist of the insertion of a camera in the area being studied, with a better view for assessment, sampling, washing cavities or removal of foreign bodies among other procedures.

The endoscope may be part of a protocol for an illness diagnosis, like the case of chronic diarrhea. It also can be used in an emergency as a healing procedure, for example; removal of a foreign body in the esophagus.

The endoscopic procedure has essentially no negative contraindications since it is consider slightly invasive to the animal. Regardless, the animal must be under general anesthesia in order to perform an endoscopy. Our protocol requires that all patients go under pre-sedation check-up before any procedure for their own health safety.

A great advantage about endoscopy is that is minimally invasive and it gives us access to difficult anatomical areas to explore that is less dangerous than surgery, like the thoracic esophagus or trachea.

A well done endoscopy can avoid unnecessary tests and animal suffering, in addition saves time regarding the staying of your pet in the operation room as well as, money concerning the owner.

Dr. Santiago Duran, a member of the Spanish Association of Veterinary Minimally Invasive Surgery and well experience in this field is the supervisor of endoscopy services in our hospital. The broad equipment available at our hospital allows us to successfully perform a wide variety of procedures to all our patients.
